About the Job
Christopher’s Reason is seeking a Full-Time Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) to join our OASAS-licensed 822 Outpatient Substance Use Disorder Treatment Program. The LMHC will provide individualized mental health and substance use counseling services to adults receiving outpatient treatment. The counselor will work as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team and provide person-centered, trauma-informed care. Only certified LMHC will be considered for this position. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide individual and group counseling to clients with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders.
  • Conduct clinical assessments and identify client strengths, needs, and treatment goals.
  • Develop, review, and update individualized treatment plans.
  • Provide ongoing counseling utilizing evidence-based approaches, including CBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI), and other appropriate clinical interventions.
  • Address substance use, mental health, trauma, coping skills, relapse prevention, emotional regulation, and life stressors.
  • Monitor client progress and document services in accordance with OASAS requirements.
  • Complete timely and clinically appropriate progress notes, treatment plans, assessments, and other required documentation.
  • Provide crisis intervention and assist with de-escalation when clinically indicated.
  • Coordinate care and make appropriate referrals to mental health, medical, psychiatric, vocational, and community resources.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings, case conferences, and clinical consultation.
  • Collaborate with medical, recovery, and other clinical staff to support continuity of care.
  • Assist clients in identifying barriers to recovery and developing practical coping and recovery strategies.
  • Support clients in maintaining treatment engagement and working toward identified recovery goals.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries, confidentiality, and ethical standards.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and required staff trainings.
  • Perform other clinical duties consistent with the LMHC role and program needs.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • New York State Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC).
  • Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling or related field.
  • Experience working with individuals with substance use disorders and/or co-occurring disorders preferred.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care and evidence-based counseling practices.
  • Strong clinical documentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
